A local detail worth checking

Use the 2026 guidance, even if an older form is still online.

Vernon Hills updated its building code effective March 1, 2026. Its permit page warns that some application materials may still reference the earlier code. Confirm the current requirements and the correct submission for your proposed window work with Community Development.

Appearance is a collection of details

Look at the whole elevation, then the individual window.

Cuneo Mansion is a Vernon Hills landmark with a distinctive rhythm of openings and shutters. Its photograph provides local context, not a design requirement for your home. At your own property, compare the relationship between windows before selecting each unit in isolation.

Three decisions to settle together.

What you see

Confirm interior and exterior colors separately. Compare grille patterns, frame profiles and visible glass, especially where several windows share one wall.

How you use it

Discuss opening direction, screens, access to locks and cleaning. A familiar appearance does not necessarily mean the replacement operates the same way.

How it meets the house

Resolve the installation method and the treatment of casing, sills and exterior trim. Identify retained finishes and who handles any painting or staining.

Where an association applies, check its written requirements for exterior alterations. Submit the actual proposed colors and configuration if approval is required; a generic brochure may not identify what will be installed.

Before release: compare the proposal to your choices.

Check the model, opening list, finishes, installation work and any exclusions. Ask for unresolved selections to be clearly marked. A last-minute substitution should trigger a new conversation about appearance, fit, price and any affected approvals, not an assumption that everything remains equivalent.

Start below with the approximate number of windows and what you would like to improve. Tell us if matching other windows or coordinating an association review is important.

Vernon Hills window questions

Which Vernon Hills guidance should I use if a form still lists 2018 codes?

The village says its building-code update took effect March 1, 2026 and that some forms and guides are still being updated. It directs applicants to use the current codes on submissions. Ask Community Development to confirm the requirements for your replacement scope.

Does a Vernon Hills window selection need association approval too?

That depends on your property and association documents. Check whether exterior color, grille pattern or frame appearance needs approval before ordering. Any association decision and the village review are separate steps; one does not replace the other.

Can I change a window color or model after approving the proposal?

Discuss the change before the order is released. Confirm the revised product, finish, cost and timing in writing, and ask whether reviewed documents or association approval also need updating. Do not assume a substituted unit has the same dimensions or performance.

Will matching the opening size preserve the same amount of glass?

Not necessarily. Frame and sash profiles, and whether an existing frame remains, affect the visible glass area. Ask to compare the proposed configuration with the current window rather than judging by nominal size alone.

Window replacement / Vernon Hills

Tell us about the windows you want to replace.

Start with the rooms, the approximate number of windows and what is not working for you. MRBCC will get back to you to discuss the project, available options and next steps.

A request is not a booked appointment or a final price. Product selection and installation timing are confirmed after discussing your home.
